Because I am teaching more in-depth courses, some even dual-enrolment courses with our looca community college, it is essential that. have enough education to be effective fot my students. I have also found that my students are more likely to respect my authority when they know that I am an expert in the area.

I firmly believe that all areas of the content standards need t be covered within a course. That being said, it is inevitable that some topics may have a greater emphasis placed on them than others. When deciding which areas to focus more heavily on, I consider my student population. Specifically, I consider what information will benefit them the most outside of the classroom, as well as what areas they may be more interested in personally. For example, in my 12th grade Economics course, my students are very interested in personal finance and the real world applications. Because of this, I incorperate personal finance lesson whenever possible and emphasize lessons about investments, debt, and taxes.

The article mentions that beliefs about a student's ability and intelligence can lead to self-fulfiling prophecies. I agree wiht this as well. Intelligence is not the only factor that impacts a student's ability or succeed. If all studnets are supported and encouraged as if they are capabe of being high-achiving students, I belive that they are more likely to be high-achieving.

the article states that educators believes about student intelligence impact how they plan their lesson. I completely agree with planning lessons around students. However, I do not believe in oversimplifying content to match a student at a low level. Students have varying intelligences in varying areas, so if I can incorporate an area a student excels in to teach a more difficult area I ma be able to help them learn the material. For example, if a student is struggling to understand the types of costs associated with a business, but they work on their family's ranch, I would plan to use a ranch as an example so the student can apply their knowledge to the new content.

The articles explains that many educators become so comfortable with their beliefs that they are unwilling to update their practices to match new research. While I know that I may become set in my ways in the future, I belive I will still be willing to update my practices because my most firmly held belife is that we, as educators, should be preparing our students to succeed after graduation. As the world is constantly changing, so will my teaching strategies if I want to continue to provide my students with a up to date and relevant education.

The idea that the closer an educators beliefs are tied to their sense of self, the more difficult it is to accept change is very interesting. Beliefs are what define is as educators, however we should be constantly willing to update our practices and philosophies to keep up with the world. Does this mean we should be updating our own sense of identity as well? I don't believe so. If the only belief an educator holds tightly is their belief that each student deserves an effective education, changing a belief for how to achieve that should be less personally threatening.

It is impossibel to separate personal beliefs from teaching because they are an educators core values, but being aware that these beliefs can cause biases and harm students can help educators to use their beliefs to maintain an effective classroom.

I can relate to this teachers thoughts because I think that it is impotent to accommodate to students needs and insight on things.

Sabrina-I completely agree with this idea. If our students are well supported emotionally, it will be easier for them to focus on the content.

The teacher talks about how it takes years to become a successful teacher and how you still learn as you go and I can definitely relate to this teachers thoughts. As a teacher you find your own way and your own style. I can also relate to this section because it states you need “style, techniques, and style again”.

Sabrina- This reminds me of the idea of becoming a lifelong learner. We continue to grow as people long after graduation, and we should also be growing as teachers long after our first few years.
