There are close to no plants in Tundra ecosystems. The land is usually covered in a layer of permafrost all year-round and plants can’t grow. During spring and summer, the permafrost melts and lets some small plants and ferns grow. One of the plants that grows during that period in the tundra is the Arctic Willow. The Arctic Willow gets its energy through photosynthesis. It is eaten by Muskoxen, Caribou, Arctic Hares and Lemmings. It is a producer. It was believed that the plant had many health benefits.
