SPEAKING ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER CULTURE:
My experiences in other cultures are not as vast as I would like. I traveled to Mexico withy family when I was a teenager. I stayed in Mexico for 2 weeks, here I was able to experience the culture, the food, music, clothing, language etc. I was able to travel throughout many areas and see the many different ways that people from that culture live. I also have had the opportunity to build relationships with people who are in from different cultures, people who are from Japan, Korea and Africa. In my interaction with them I am able to see and experience pieces of each of their culture through them.

My ethnicity is being African American. I grew up in a neighborhood where it was predominately African American and my only experience at a young age of people who were of different ethnicities was through the television. It was only when I went to high school was I exposed to ethnicities that were different from my own and I was able to build relationships with some people from different ethnicities.

MY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES..

My opportunities to learn weren't the best. My elementary public school that I was assigned to go to, was the closest to my home, however my parents felt I wasn't be given the best education and also feared for my safety. This lead my parents to try their hardest to get me in a school that was closer to the suburbs and would present the opportunity to have a better chance at a quality education. This school too began to crumble under the pressures of a changing neighborhood, old and worn textbooks, inconsistency with teaching staff and some students getting overlooked due to some students who required more attention for their behavior problems. It was only until I visited a friends school who was in the same grade as me, did I realize the true difference between the education I was receiving versus the education she was receiving. She lived in a county district where they had more money and were able to afford the school with the technology the students need, up to date text books just to name a few.
