Universal precautions are safety guidelines that help prevent the spread of germs when taking care of wounds or handling bodily fluids. These rules treat all blood and some body fluids as if they might be infectious, no matter what. When caring for a wound, it's important to wear disposable gloves to keep both you and the person safe. Use clean tools and dressings to avoid infections. Make sure to clean and disinfect any surfaces or materials that touch blood. After you’re done, throw away the gloves and wash your hands well with soap and water.

First, grasp the outside of one glove at the palm. Peel glove away from the palm toward the fingers, rolling the glove inside-out. Be careful not to touch your skin with your gloved hand. Ball the glove up and hold in your other gloved hand. Carefully slide the un-gloved index finger inside the wrist band of the gloved hand. Avoid touching the outside of the glove. Gently pull outwards and down toward the fingers, removing the glove inside out. Pull the glove down so that the first glove ends up inside the second glove. Throw away both gloves in an appropriate container.

The area around the wound may appear red and swollen. It might also feel warm or hot to the touch. Swelling can occur around the wound, and it may hurt more than expected or become increasingly painful. Additionally, you might see yellow or green pus or discharge coming from the wound. Sometimes, the person may also have a fever or feel generally unwell. If you notice any of these signs, it's important to see a doctor for proper care.
