I believe I contributed well and added insightful comments to the discussion.

Notes
Ideas discussed I want to remember: I want to remember what the needle symobolized. I wasn't able to say this in the discussion. But I believe the needle they mentioned is like her gun because, every time she shoots someone the needle of her "drugs" gets refilled and the addiction continues. I also want to remember how the soldiers seemed to not be Mary Anne because, she symbolized what they could become and they were terrified they'd become her. I also want to remember everyones ideas of what happened to them while in war and what their innocence truly symbolized.

Especially the Holocaust book we read in AP English. How they lost everything when they took everyone away and basically lost everything they believed in there time. Which connects to TTTC because, they lost everything when they went to war and received nothing back because, when they went home they were different then when they went to war.

How does TTTC connect to our world today? Be detailed in how it connects with global issues and thematic and stylistic ideas to other works. We've repeadtly touched on the past and how it effects those in the future. Like in Hughes and obriens book the both touched on their past experiences and the traumatizing effects it had on them. Which connects with beloved because it continually goes back to the characters past and how it effects their life.

How does Beloved connect to our world today? Everyone has trauma in their life that effects them in many ways. Some react in hostile ways in the future and some act in more responsible ways as they have learned from their mistakes. This connects beloved to today because those same characters underwent what commonly happens to society today.

Journal

Linda Krumholz claims (in "The Ghosts of Slavery: Historical Recovery in Toni Morrison’s Beloved") that finding a voice for the thoughts and experiences of women is central to the "healing," historical recovery theme and structure of the book. According to Krumholz, Morrison’s novel "adapts techniques from modernist novels, such as the fragmentation of the plot and shifting narrative voice, to compel the reader to actively construct an interpretive framework" (109). How does the novel specifically address issues of gender, writing and power? How does the structure and style of the novel give voice to "the thoughts of the women of 124, unspeakable thoughts, unspoken" (Beloved 199)? The author brings upon Paul D's experiences of becoming a man. He believed he couldn't get help from a women because it would make him less of a man. She does all of these through her writing to create a sensation of a time line through out the chapters of her book. With her characters and her storyline with them she is able to give the characters a voice because with every dramatic situation everyone reacts in a different way.
