This might be something to try - maybe even with some of my sample papers from my demo that I've analyzed with students. It's clear that much of the time, my students just pick quotations or facts from the novel totally at random without understanding that they don't actually do what they're telling me it does, and that disconnect has proven quite a sticking point for me as a teacher and them as students. I have never thought about how to teach students a different between the sources they use to support their points and love the distinction between the four types.
