         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><strong>Martin Luther King jr. - </strong> was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1954 until his death in 1968. <strong>James Bevel-</strong> was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi, in 1936. He became a civil rights activist, and helped set up 1963's "children's crusade" in Birmingham, Alabama—a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement. He left the Southern Christian Leadership Conference after the death of Martin Luther King Jr. Bevel was convicted of incest in 2008. He died in Springfield, Virginia, later that same year. <strong>Fred Shuttlesworth - </strong>Born on March 18, 1922, in Mount Meigs, Alabama, Fred Shuttlesworth was a Baptist minister and one of the South's most prominent Civil Rights leaders. He worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., co-founding the SCLC and organizing direct-action protests in Birmingham, refusing to waver even after multiple attacks. Also a community activist in Cincinnati, he died on October 5, 2011.</li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>ex-slaves would have been doomed. </div><div>With the death of Lincoln they were doomed. New president Andrew Johnson was not enthusiastic about helping ex-slaves. Since they owned nothing they were once again dependent on the white aristocracy.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLS) - Civil Rights organization which was founded in 1957. they founded the SCLC in order to have regional organization that could go with the civil rights protest activities in the south. it was founded in Atlanta, Georgia at the Ebeneezer baptist church. <br>Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights(ACMHR)- was a civil rights organization in Birmingham, Alabama, United States, which coordinated boycotts and sponsored federal lawsuits aimed at dismantling segregation in Birmingham and Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement. Fred Shuttlesworth, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, served as president of the group from its founding in 1956 until 1969. The ACMHR's crowning moment came during the pivotal Birmingham Campaign which it coordinated along with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference during the Spring of 1963.</div>]]></description>
