Access to various areas for enterprises and people, for both freight and personal movements, is the primary function of transportation. Governments must make investments in logistics infrastructure, such as roads, railroads, airports, and ports, to support economic growth. Along with protecting citizens' rights to clean air, decent places to live and work, as well as basic human rights and equalities, governments also need to invest in the environment. Because there is no financial incentive, businesses are not motivated to address these difficulties. Various governments' attitudes and priorities about how much attention they give to these issues vary across different countries. Comparing how government policies have impacted the expansion of logistics and transportation is one approach to assess how effective their impact has been on the economy.

Communications and transportation are crucial for fostering the growth of social, political, and commercial ties. Before trade can be conducted on a regular basis, these linkages must be established. Transport is also required for commodities to get to markets where they can be bought, sold, or traded for goods or service. Each geographical area can create what it does best and then trade that commodity with others thanks to transportation. Additionally, transportation enables employees to get to their workplaces. Last but not least, transportation makes it feasible for a producer to access a wide range of markets.
Market competition is increased by a transportation network. The allocation process is enhanced by a transportation system because it gives suppliers and consumers more opportunities.
