I was born in the Philippines. Then in 2002, my family and I moved to Hawai'i when I was two. I had family, before me, move to the islands around the 80s. I have many relatives in Kauai, Big Island, Maui, and Oahu (where I live). I am not Kanaka Maoli. I truly believe though, that an individual does not have to be Kanaka Maoli to intentionally appreciate Hawai’i. And when I mean appreciate Hawai'i, I mean the intangibles. Although the physical aesthetics is mind-blowing and beautiful as well. One should learn the history, especially if they are deciding to reside in Hawai'i, and for any place of that matter. It is important to be aware when moving to a new home, or even vacationing. Some countries/states may allow certain things, while other places do not. So it is important to tread lightly on any land. More so a place you have never been to. In addition, I strongly believe that the Native Hawaiians, who the islands rightfully belong to, should gain the justice that they have been fighting for so long.

With Covid-19 going on flights have been cheap, therefore making it very tempting to buy tickets. There have been instances where choose to vacation or move here. Keep in mind during a pandemic. Some follow the rules when first landing here. But of course, some people don't. It does not help when people post about coming to Hawai'i, DURING A PANDEMIC. It is implying that it is okay to come here. The vacation can wait. The big decision to come down here because "omg it is so spontaneous" can wait. Cases are rising, which is pushing back the dates for people to go back to work, and students to go back to campus. People must make educated decisions and put others into consideration.
