In love with Lysander from start to finish, believes it to be a sort of True Love and would first believe that he is dead, then believe that he left her. Ran away from Athens to marry him since her father would not allow it. Best friend to Helena. ""Can you do me greater harm than hate?" (2.2.278)

Supposedly, Hermia's true love, makes the plan to run away to his aunts in another town so they could get married. As soon as the love potion is in his eyes and he sees Helena, he becomes insufferable.He just abandons his so-called love and says the most out of pocket stuff about her for no reason at all. He did the bare minimum by refusing to harm her, but the emotional wounds he caused were so much worse according to Hermia. The potion is removed and he goes back to loving Hermia normally but Jesus Christ. "Be certain, nothing truer, tis no jest that I hate thee and love Helena." (3.2.288)

Demetrius

The guy that has permission to marry Hermia from her father. Used to be in a relationship with Helena, but ended it. Has ZERO interest in her anymore. Genuinely feel bad for him cause Helena's creepy as hell towards him and the love potion is never removed from him which makes him marry her by the end. "Do I entice you? Do I speak you fair? Or rather, do I not in plainest truth tell you that I do not nor I cannot love you?" (2.1.203)

Begins unloved by all, and super jealous/desperate from it, so she rats out Lysander and Hermia when they try to run away so that the one she love, Demetrius, would be thankful to her and hopefully fall for her. Enjoys the dynamic she has with him tho, pretty into being neglected and hated/ treated like a dog... Once Lysander and Demetrius fall for her, she literally thinks she's so unlovable that she's only being mocked by everyone at once. Needs therapy. ""To join with men in scorning your poor friend? It is not friendly, 'tis not maidenly; Our sex as well as I, may chide you for it, though I alone feel the injury." (3.2.218)

Theseus

The Duke of Athens, forcing Hippolyta to marry him cause he won a fight. Seems to be a little bit better by the end of act 4, overriding Egeus's wishes and allowing Hermia to marry Lysander. "Egeus , I will overbear your will; For in the temple by and by with us, these couples shall eternally be knit" (4.1.179)

strong amazonian queen, hates Theseus but has to marry him because she lost a battle to him before the story begins. Symbol of power. By the end of the show, she seems a lot more comfortable with her husband. "Four days will quickly be followed by night; four nights will quickly dream away the time." (1.1.7)

Oberon

The fairy king. Gets jealous very very easily. Literally curses his wife with a love potion. But wanted to help Helena with her relationship with Demetrius using the same love potion. He also begins to feel bad for his wife afterwards and makes up with her when he removes the effects. "Her dotage now I do begin to pity, For meeting her of late behind the wood, Seeking sweet favors for this hateful fool." (4.1.45)

Titania

The queen of the fairy's. Has an Indian changeling child who's mother worshiped her before she died. Oberon is jealous of that kid so he put a love potion in her eyes, which causes her to fall in love with Nick Bottom as a donkey. Once the potion is off she makes amends with her husband and blesses Hippoloyta and Theseus's wedding. "The fairy land buys not the child not the child of me." (2.1.124)

Puck (Robin Goodfellow)

Androgynous hobgoblin fairy that loves chaos and confusion. He can transform himself AND OTHERS just for fun. Is the one that screwed over all of the lovers with the mistaken identity love potion fiasco and makes Nick Bottom into a donkey, but he takes it all back when Oberon instructs him to. Serves Oberon. "I am that merry wanderer of the night. I jest to Oberon and make him smile." (2.1.44)

Nick Bottom

The best character. An actor that has no idea how theater actually works, wants every role simultaneously and always actively trying to be the center of attention. Always trying to upstage the director Peter Quince. Gets transformed into a donkey by Puck and the Fairy Queen falls for him. He doesn't actually know about the love potion tho so he's just thinking he got lucky and starts taking advantage of her servants. "What do you see? You see an ass-head of your own, do you?" (3.1.102)
