During this time period, the earth's atmosphere was still in development. It was lacking oxygen because all the oxygen was a part of the H20 water droplets in the air. During this time through the process of photosynthesis, cyanobacteria using CO2, water and sunlight creates oxygen. This process over the years filled up 21% of the atmosphere which is 1% today.

In this time period, oxygen levels rose to the amount we see today where 20% of the atmosphere is oxygen. Oxygen levels then began to rise to even 35%. Normally, when a plant or animal dies, its carbon that's released into the air combines with oxygen creating CO2. But now, with the new emergence of swamps, it is able to layer on top of the dead animals and trees trapping in the carbon. This decline of CO2 in the air allowed the earths temperature to drop drastically over the years.

At this time period, it was the warmest of all time periods. Scientists discovered how the earth's atmosphere greatly impacted the climate. As glaciers began melting and shrinking, scientists noticed the climate would get warmer. They also found, that when the earths climate was generally warm, animals would start to emerge there.
