Gujarat: Accounts for nearly 23% of the cotton and Ahmedabad is the largest centre of production with more than 50% of the entire number of mills. Ahemedabad serves as the major Harbour here

Tamil Nadu: Coimbatore is also known as the Manchester of South India, producing 6% of the entire cotton in India Most important centres are: Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Trichy. Tuticorin Harbour serves them. Tamil Nadu is home to the historic Binny&Co who set up the Buckingam and Carnatic mills.

Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are the most abundant producers of cotton due to the number of mills in these three states.  

Maharashtra produces the most amount of cotton clothing in india (40% of the entire production across the country) - Often called the cottonopolis of India Main factors: Abundance of black soil (Location based factor) Humid climate (Meets climatic requirements of cotton) Mumbai as an international port (commercial benefit)
