We (Brock, Gillis, Snapp, Spencer, Triggs) met on Wed., Oct. 26 @ 1:45 pm to discuss math and ways to instruct our students.

At the beginning of the year, we usually begin teaching math in whole group. As the year progresses, we then begin centers. There are times, though, when we still teach in whole group when necessary.

We feel that the workbook pages can be used in one center or in whole group. Other centers can be games, iPads/computers, stem (blocks, magnatiles, anything building, etc.), geoboards, attribute/pattern blocks, patterns, numbers, cards, dice, dominoes, counters -- the list goes on and on.

Manipulatives are very important in kindergarten -- hands on is imperative. If manipulatives are needed in the classroom, please give Ariana a list of needed materials or directly contact Anne Laskey -- she has a storage unit full! Ariana has resources for games that she received from her math group meeting. We can go to BCS Schoology K-5 Teacher Group, then resources, then kindergarten (games are in this folder).

We are concerned that we do not have YouTube or YouTube Kids access (we use it extensively -- songs, videos, exercises, brain breaks, teachable moments, research for something we have just discussed with the kids). Ariana found out from her math group meeting that other schools still have access. We are wondering why this is so????

Present: Butler, Cox, Enns, Lyons, Palmer, Murphy, Shank, Snyder
Agenda Points:
1) Documenting TSS information: We discussed how we are organizing the information and who is keeping documentation on tier II students. Dehaven keeps documentation on those students. We need to document when we meet with students. Discussed printing scores and other documentation for folders prior to moving to 2nd grade.
2) WVDE site: The video shows we are moving in the right direction. We are curious as to how/when we will be effected by this? How does our current reading program support this?? We need more intervention support in K-2 schools to make this happen.
3) Writing assessment: we discussed what works for some. Some teachers are documenting in a grade book based on writing assignments and dictation sentences. Some use anecdotal notes on students during writing time. We know it is important to have documentation for parents and tier II/III students and possible retentions.
Other:
Discussed field trip to Shenandoah Valley Museum. We will have chaperone names in by March 30th. Send out to all parents and select 4-6 from those interested. We are going to make a list of expectations required by chaperones to engage students in the activities.
Create an expectations of first graders for spring letter to parents. What are the things we feel students should be able to do to be a successful first grade graduate? Discuss more on Feb 20th.
We also discussed the steps that need to be taken to change the criteria for tierIII students. If we are going to use Scholastic as the testing tool, we feel Level B students should also receive tierIII services. Honestly any student that does not know all of their letters and sounds by January should be tier III. Who do we need to contact?
