I would say the key aspect of feeling a sense of community, in a sense, is how much you get to control who you are online. People present the best parts of themselves for others to see, because it is far easier to connect with the people you want to if you show exactly who you want to be. Hence, with excessive Internet usage, the lines between real and fake, genuinely offensive versus inoffensive, right versus wrong, they all begin to blur. People who can no longer tell reality apart from their own distorted versions are referred to as being 'chronically online'. People only see the manufactured side of the figure, the side they want to share with the public, and develop an attachment to that, but those on the relationship-forming end declare they are forming a relationship with the person, themselves.
