Accommodations are mandatory as per IEP and 504 plans. Differentiation is accommodating all learners in a classroom including ELL J.S.S

Differentiation: mean to meet individual needs. Accommodation: is about how instruction is delivered (students who have a physical disability, a learning disability or students who are labeled ELL). JS

Accommodations are mandated and specified in IEPs, usually for disabilities, differentiation are changes to the lesson plan that must be done by the teacher to cater the lesson towards students that either need extra assistance or more challenges. -DBW

Differentiation--is tweaking an assignment here and there. For example giving a word bank to some versus not giving a word bank. Differentiation is NOT teaching two different topics during one lesson.

Accommodations--is giving special needs to certain kids in the classroom that will play a pivotal part in their success. For example giving extra time, repeated instruction, or one-on-one instruction.

differentiation: tailoring instruction to meet the students needs of all students in a class

Accommodations: How instruction is delivered and how the lesson can be modified to "accommodate" a child's needs who may have an IEP or 504 plan

Differentiation: closer to modification. For example, can include a small group for a subject area where some students might struggle, and while they might learn the same material, they might take a little longer to do so. So a lot of the class could move on to different material, while the few students are still learning the former material.

Accommodations: still same material, but can include typing instead of writing. For example, last year one of the students broke her dominant wrist right before the state test, so she typed her answers instead of wrote.

I always thought accommodations were mandatory things through IEP's and 504's and differentiation was accommodating all learners, but I've got this wrong on a number of lesson plans sooooo idkkkk. JK

Differentiation is taking an assignment and making slight changes to the deliverables, making it more complex or simpler for high flyers and slower movers. While Accomodations are based on need and are to help a student succeed, ex: extra time, someone reading aloud for them, typing instead of writing. theses examples make learning acessible. -FM
