Even after all the unethical experiments to harvest the henrietta's cells and mass reproduce them, they weren’t even doing ethical experimentation with them. To take her cancer cells and inject them into multiple people without their consent breaks so many ethical principles. Starting off with injecting the cells into cancer patients was morally incorrect to begin with, but doing the study on those without cancer could have killed people. The study was even proven to not be true. While reading this part of the book it really angeried me after the things i've been through. For a doctor to take advantage of people and give them cancer is inexcusable.

“At some point, Zakariyya noticed an ad seeking volunteers for medical studies at Hopkins, and he realized he could become a research subject in exchange for a little money, a few meals, sometimes even a bed to sleep on. When he needed to buy eyeglasses, he let researchers infect him with malaria to study a new drug”

This passage helps prove how inequitable the health care system is. Zakariyya couldn't afford glasses so he risked his body to get those glasses. It is even worse to think that he was Henrietta's son. Henrietta contributed so much to the healthcare system, but after she passed her family couldn't even afford some of the most basic needs. This is meaningful to me because it baffled me how people were profiting so much off of cells except for the person who those cells belong to.

This book effects my future work, by making sure the patient understands what is going. I will advocate harder for patient's rights because many people don't know them. This book also showed me how inequitable the healthcare system is, as Henrietta's family never received any money.

This book applies to our course materials through the concept of informed consent. Henrietta never consented to any biopsy of her tumor. There were also many other cases that showed other times where informed consent was violated. A case of this was the man who had his antibodies for Hepatitis B used without his consent. This book helped stress the importance of informed consent with real life cases.
