Selye discovered the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS). GAS is a series of three stages of the response to stress in prolonged stress.

During my semester at Armstrong State University I was hit with a devastating family tragedy that I had no idea how to handle. My aunt and uncle were killed that day. My family didn't want to tell me, but i found out anyway. It was the worst pain that I have ever felt. I started not to focus on school and my alarm reaction kicked in. I was so stressed out that i lost all focus for school because I was distraught from what had happened. Which is when the stage of resistance started. I failed all of my classes that semester. Because of the stress of losing family, I was unable to put my full attention into school. I went to the funeral and all of stress poured out of me when i saw my aunt and uncle in the caskets. A day that i will never forget.
