I came up with a skull and a masked character with some details and imprinted and painted them onto my clay slab. When having to arrange it into a 3D shape i tried to create a 3D skull, however I didn't have enough clay and has to take more of an abstract approach with the creation of it. I found it made the workshop more difficult and that I was harder pressed for ideas. Overall I'm not entirely happy with my outcomes as I feel I could have done better if I focused on what I was better at, but I am also content knowing my thought process and experimentation this workshop will hopefully have allowed me to progress a bit further. I quite enjoyed the fabric dying, however I needed a couple of attempts as the colour washed out of a couple of pieces. Cara emailed me about how materials and such could be used so I wondered could I push the limited materials I had and do something more creative? At first I created a small tray out of cardboard to get a feel for how the material could bend or slot together. Then I decided to create an abstract "bowl" that could hold 3 apples. This "bowl" balanced the apples atop one another. For the larger fruit bowl I again tried to push the aspect of balance and created a fold of paper in which fruit would sit and balance atop a cardboard and paper support beam. I am quite happy with the outcome as I had originally thought my ideas wouldn't work, but in the end they did. I wasn't sure what to create or how to go about it. I only previously knew how to stitch up holes in clothes in a rudimentary sense. In the end, my Granny helped me with the project and taught me how to use a sewing machine correctly so I could develop my knowledge on how to stitch. We settled on a cushion cover using multiple denim clothes to give a varied appearance and texture. Some pieces of the fabric are a little lopsided and the inner stitching is a little off as I was learning how to sew it using the machine, but overall I am very pleased with the result. I also created a little hat for my cat, Mordekai to practice stitching with the sewing machine on a smaller scale. It turned out alright and he wore it for more than 5 seconds so I would say he approved of the attempt.
