The music is monotonous, repetitive and dark that it shows machine-like aesthetic.

My work is going to depict repetitive nature of practicing and playing classical music, and from my experience it gives me both joy and struggle at the same time. I like playing the same pieces over and over again for the sake of enjoyment, but when I struggled on a new piece it's painful. I feel like having OCD when I'm playing piano because of my repetitive urges to play the piece.

For the music I will perform and record only the first section of the piece and loop it all over again. I'm sure the part is loopable. I will not use other pianists' recording because of copyright. I will perform and record the piece myself because the piece are in public domain and anyone can choose to perform them.

I won't play the whole piece, only the first section of the piece and loop it. The first sections that I'm planning to play, I choose Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G minor opus 23 no. 5 and Franz Liszt's first page of La Campanella. I can actually play the whole piece, but I won't because it's too long. Also Scott Joplin's first section of the Maple Leaf Rag

The reasons I choose these pieces because they sound dark, except Scott Jopin's Maple Leaf Rag that sounds joyful. I want to depict feeling dark and joyful at the same time from practicing an instrument.

This visual music is supposed to depict my experience or any other trained pianists' experience of doing repetitive hands movement looking at the sheet music over and over again to figure out the sheet music. I drew the skull, candle and background in illustrator. I animate the candle flames with after effects stock plugins. The background I flip it into a window shape and slide it up and down in opposite direction from each other.  I processed the audio with EQ, reverb, compressor. My tutor Ivan reprocessed my audio for me to bring out the bass more.

 I took photos of 56 pages of my sheet music and layered it together into stop motion, the first slow 13 notes of the piece, the frames changed each time the note hits. Then the crazy part came and the stop motion moved like crazy. 

I added dripping blood vfx and burning vfx with stock plugins in after effects, then after the sheet music burning, the first audio section of the piece ends with a visual of the sheet music and the title of the piece. 

I played this piece since 2015. This music video indicates me struggling on practicing this advanced piece, so I put blood dripping and paper burning to exaggerate my ideas.

This music video doesn't indicate joy, fulfillment and struggle  anymore, but only struggle of playing classical music
