What? Genocide is when a group of people kill other people or groups of people deliberately because of their differences.
When? The Rwanda genocide started on April 6, 1994, and ended in July of 1944.
Where? The genocide occurred in Rwanda which is Central/ Eastern Africa. Most of the genocide occurred in the capitol, Kigali.
Why? Firstly, "Rwanda Genocide: 100 Days of Slaughter" novelists claim,  "Neighbours killed neighbours and some husbands even killed their Tutsi wives, saying they would be killed if they refused." This displays that as the Rwandan genocide progressed, it became viscous and it became so bad that people killed others, no matter how close they were, so they could survive. Also, as stated in History.com's article "Rwandan Genocide", writers observe, "Within three months, some 800,000 people had been slaughtered." This show that the Rwandan genocide was momentous because of the mass amounts of murders that occurred there and the power of the Hutu. Lastly, according to  the article "Divided by Ethnicity",  authors state, "Between April and July 1994, at least 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutus were slaughtered when a Hutu extremist-led government launched a plan to murder the country's entire Tutsi minority and any others who opposed the government's policies."  Through this, it appears that during the Rwandan genocide, lots of groups that opposed the Hutu were killed and this had a very large impact on the world, making it a significant event that will be remembered for years to come. First of all, in his article, William A. Shabas notes, "Although Mukaragye is ready to go home he still feels there is a need for the government to do more in terms of educating the masses about the advantages of forgiving so that the past is forgotten for the sake of a new Rwanda." Through this evidence, it shows even though the Rwandan genocide is over, many reflect on it and express that not enough was being done, then or now, to have a substantial impact on lives. Additionally, in the book "Rwanda Torn Apart", author Kari Bodnarchuk believes, "One aid organization reported that by 1998 about 300,000 Rwandan children who had been orphaned or abandoned by their parents during the war were still looking after themselves and had no adult supervision." What can be seen from this is that after the genocide, kids had to live on their own and they continue to struggle with maintaining a safe life after their parents left which makes it harder for them to move on. Finally, Noah Berlatsky, editor of the book "Genocide and Persecution: Rwanda" shows, "Their story of ethnic violence, extreme guilt and, to some degree, reconciliation is the story of Rwanda today, 20 years after its Hutu majority killed more than 1 million Tutsis and moderate Hutus." This displays that today, many victims remain solemn about what occurred during the Rwandan genocide and wish for peace to come.
