For example, immigrants come in American to have a better life, but they are not really free. They can't get a house, to vote,  to travel and more things that a US citizen can do. For me, freedom looks like I have the rights to pick my own career, classes, own choice, and even more things. One thing that get's away from my freedom is that my parents are going to be protective with me because I am still young, and they care about me. They try to do things that will help me succeed in life and I might need their options on things too.

Now in society you have freedom solemnly based on the color of your skin. I strongly believe people of color have less freedom because they are discriminated against. It means my parents trusting me to do things that I wouldn't have been allowed to do because of my age, because of the times we are in, or being able to express myself with the clothes I wear or something else. Some ways freedom is in my everyday life is, when I go to my dad's house and he goes somewhere and I stay alone. I wasn't allowed to do that before but, because of trust and my age he lets me stay home alone now. I also am able to dress in a little less "childish" way. What gets in the way of my freedom sometimes, is when I don't do something I was supposed to do such as not doing my chores or not getting my work done on time.

Being free is having the ability to act as one chooses and to have control over one's own life and decisions. People with freedom can express themselves freely and exercise their rights. As Americans, we possess certain inalienable rights that we exercise on a day-to-day basis. In the United States, I have the freedom to practice my religion, protest, assemble, petition, criticize my government without punishment, and many others. However, I also experience obstacles that interfere with my independence. For starters, I am not of legal age, which can prevent me from partaking in certain activities. Struggles that often go unnoticed, like racism and sexism, limit me from being truly free. I cannot be truly free until I can pursue my education without having to deal with constant microaggressions or racial slurs. I cannot be truly free until I am certain that my loved one's skin color will be seen as a threat and reason to inflict harm. I cannot be free until I walk down the street without being sexually harassed by someone twice my age. Until my safety is a given, I remain a prisoner.
