Learning to reflect

Take some time to reflect on your performance (individual and group) in the seminar today. How could you improve for next time? Consider the higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

TIMINGS

· Could the timings have been improved?

Comparing with last week, the timings improved a lot and we have a proper time arrangement for each question.

· Did the presentation / discussion / summary go on too long / not long enough?

The second presentation was not long enough because of the quitting time, so this could improve next time.

QUESTIONS

· Were there too many / too few questions?

There is a little bit much of questions, we just have 20 minutes and we need to discuss 5 questions, so I think there are too questions.

· Were these questions shared before the class? How? Did students contribute to a discussion board beforehand?

Yes, it was. When we do our reading tasks and lecture tasks, we

· Did the questions relate to tomorrow’s SAQ? Did the discussion bring up useful ideas, examples and insights which would be useful for the SAQs / end of course assessment [SAQ exam, Thursday of Week 9]?

Yes, it did. For my opinion, the discussion can offer me something new and horizon my mind.

· Were the questions of the right type to provoke discussion?

Well, the discussion is not decided by the right type of questions. There is no definitely answer for a question, everyone can have different answer and in order to provoke discussion, the leader should have a well-organized to help people take part in the discussion.

· Did you APPLY the theories to the examples / generalisations?

Yes, I apply the theories from the book of Browne (2011) and the lecture to illustrate my opinion. However, I made a mistake today, when I show my examples I did not mentioned it from Browne (2011) , so next time I will pay more attention to this.

· Did you ANALYSE what was said by others, by Browne (2011) and Gardos (2016)?

In our group, we analyse the specific idea of Browne (2011) and Gardos (2016) and also apply it to answer the questions in discussion which I think we did very well.

· Did you EVALUATE opinions and SYNTHESISE ideas effectively?

Although we overview and summarize the main idea and the conclusion of idea, we play less attention on the evaluation and synthesis ideas, which I think could be improved next time.

SEMINAR LANGUAGE

· Did you use the language for seminars (agreeing and disagreeing)?

Yes, we use a lot language for seminars especially I am the leader of my group. I used these sentences, such as ‘what is your opinion?’ and ‘what do you think of it ‘.

· How will you apply what you have learned in your SAQ tomorrow?

I will use the new idea and the specific examples into my writing and evaluate it in my SAQ.

· If you were seminar leaders for next week’s discussion, what would you do differently next time?

At first, I would organize my group to find the answer from the reading or lecture individually for 2 minutes and them begin our discussion, after it I would conclude and do a summarize for our discussion, finally make up clear answer in the Padlet and also add the examples.
