The Black History Month is a commemorative month in the honnor of the black population who fought against slavery. It's celebrated in The United States and Canada in February and in The United Kingdom in October. It began in the U.S.A in 1926 with a certain Carter G. Woodson and has been expended in 1995 in Canada. The United Kingdom, however, started celebrated black people and their journey in 1987.

The Nothing Hill Carnival is a three days carnival which takes place during the weekend before the last Monday of August, so during the Blank Holiday of The United Kingdom. It started in 1966 and spread over the Nothing Hill and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea streets in London.

The musical influence is moslty caribbean, with some Reggae, Ragga and the tradional : Socca.

On June 22th 1948, London welcomed 492 immigrants from Caribbean islands. They arrived on a boat called the Empire Windrush, which the English had taken from the Nazis during the last war. It was the first group of immigrants to come in England after the World War II. Later, these immigrants and their succession were called the "Windrush generation", it allowed the Great Britain to expand its culture and helped with the economy of the UK at the time. But what was at first a promise of acceptation began to be a judgment. Indeed, the British population were not all alright with the Caribbeans coming to England.

After the World War II, the Great Britain needed some people to help rebuild the city and the population of England was not enough ; so they call upon Caribbeans. They promised them a job, money and a good housing. 
Months after months, a new England was born.

Why did they leave the West Indies for the U.K?

Immigrants came to the Great Britain simply because they wanted a better life ; for themselves, their family... And they fought that England could give them that. They had great expectations about Britain, it was like an old American Dream: for them everyone could get a job, have a home and earn enough money there. They jumped in the opportunity when the U.K opened up for them. But like I said before, the journey was far from over.

Not so long after the immigration, the Caribbeans started to open they own restaurants, barbers, nightclubs, bookshops or grocers. Soaking the Caribbean culture into the English one. Benjamin Zephaniah has a song about that thought, saying that the U.K is a giant recipe full of many different ingredients and that it's what makes it beautiful.
