We are very excited about implementing the North Reading Public Schools remote learning schedule to provide students with a more directed learning experience designed, coordinated and facilitated by our incredibly talented and committed professionals.  Please understand, it is our goal to provide structure to student learning, but afford families flexibility with regards to when the work is completed each day.

As per the March 30, 2020 memorandum from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shared with you by Dr. Daly.  Our professionals have designed a learning experience in line with the recommendations that  “schools support students to engage in meaningful and productive learning for approximately half the length of a regular school day. We expect this learning to take place via a combination of educator-directed learning and student self-directed learning.” 

The North Reading Public Schools remote learning schedule accounts for five days a week, Monday through Friday. The grade level formats will provide guided instruction and practice in all content areas: Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Social-Emotional Learning.  Students will maintain their weekly specialist schedules and be provided with content/activities on the classroom specific dates designed by those professionals.  In addition, there will be more information regarding coordinated special education services, related services, and remedial learning support. More direct communications will be coming for those specific service providers in the days to come.   

In this model, fourth and fifth-grade students will be provided instrumental lessons weekly, and the chorus will be provided opportunities to practice, sing, and maybe even perform during the school closure.

Teachers will be asking for students to submit work in a few different ways mostly via email, Seesaw and/or Google classroom.  At the elementary level, teachers will be working on a credit/no credit system for assignments.  Teachers will provide individual feedback on assignments as needed to support student learning and progress. With a standard-based reporting, teachers will be able to monitor students’ performance and we believe the report card can be utilized effectively to document student learning.

As this is a developing shift in professional practice, we appreciate your help in setting up students to make sure they have access to the tools necessary to complete the work. Please communicate with teachers if there are issues with access and/or the ability to complete the assignments.  We are committed to supporting all students and families during the remote learning schedule.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Let me begin by saying how much we miss all of our students. We are concerned for our students’ health and well-being, as well as their families. We would like to thank everyone for your understanding, kindness, and support as we have transitioned to remote learning.

As we transition to remote learning, we don't expect to get it perfectly right out of the gate so please be patient. We are counting on the strong relationships we have built with families in order to benefit and enhance our ability to continue supporting our students. We truly value the home school partnership more than ever before during this challenging time.

This site provides school updates, the pledge of allegiance which will be updated periodically (led by Hood School students), digital learning resources, Seesaw links for kindergarten through grade2 and google classroom links for grades 3, 4 &5.

In closing, we wish you and your family the very best. Please follow the CDC guidelines using social distancing and hygiene protocol. Remember, life will get back to normal eventually, but hopefully, after this experience is over, our lives will include more appreciation of our blessings and our freedoms.

When the school day and the workday converge at home, it can be overwhelming. Stay calm and find a routine that works for the entire family. Our Remote Learning Plan continues to provide structured learning for our students that is flexible in order to meet the unique challenges that our students and families are facing.  Student participation in remote learning is mandatory. Students may participate in the learning requirements during the time that works best for you and your family.  However, it is important that ALL students engage with this work to the best of their abilities. 

 

During this period of closure, it is expected that all students follow the Remote Learning Plan and communicate with the teachers regularly to discuss any questions or concerns.  If your child is sick and cannot participate, please inform the classroom teacher.   We are confident that we can meet the needs of all students if we follow this plan and communicate regularly when there is a need for flexibility.

 

The district will be moving forward into Phase II beginning on April 27, 2020.  Phase II will allow for the introduction of new content. Most likely all other aspects of the Remote Learning Plan (schedule, etc.) would remain the same in Phase 2.

We understand that this is an extremely difficult time for all and appreciate parent and caregivers’ support.  Please promote a positive attitude towards Remote Learning, give students space to struggle productively, provide a setting for study, support a regular routine of work completion and class participation.

We are writing today to inform you of the plan to pick up student belongings at the J. Turner Hood Elementary School. The classroom teachers have bagged and labeled each students items.  If you would like to claim these materials we have created a pickup schedule that is listed below.  The schedule for pickup is by grade and  will be conducted by classroom. If you have siblings in different grades, please plan on coming to pick up their belongings at either time.  

 

Kindergarten 9am to 10am

Grade 1 10am to 11am

Grade 2 11am to Noon 

 

Grade 3 9am to 10am

Grade 4 10am to 11am

Grade 5 11am to Noon 

 

 

Student belonging pickup will happen in the front of the building at the bus loop outside of the main office.  

 

When you arrive at school please remain in your vehicle. 

 

A staff member will ask you for your student’s name, classroom teachers name  and this individual will retrieve your student’s belongings.  

 

They will retrieve the belongings and place the bag by your vehicle.  

 

When they move away from your vehicle, you will then be able to exit your vehicle and pick up the bag of materials.

 

If the weather is such that we cannot do this outside on the assigned date, we will reschedule.  

 

All materials not picked up will be stored at the school until July 1, 2020.  At that time, unclaimed materials will be recycled.
