2. What are some student-centered approaches or techniques that are based on or require collaboration? Tiered assignments (Rosetta)

Tiered assignments are tasks given to students according to their level in the class. Students are often grouped according to their ability, then each group is given a different assignment. An example of two groups would be a group that needs to build their knowledge, and another group that needs to extend their knowledge. The first group’s assignment could be to make a poster about their favorite food, the second group can make a poster their favorite food and who is involved in making it.

Tiered assignments is based on Bloom’s taxonomy where educational objectives are classified into different levels of complexity: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating.

Note: tiering needs to be done with discretion, as students may wonder why the assignments are different. The teacher can tell the students that the assignments are different so they can share their knowledge with the rest of the class. The tasks should be equally as interesting and engaging. The teacher should be equally enthusiastic about each type of task and give groups neutral names.

References:
How to differentiate your teaching

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaAckoV59tg

Tiered assignments

https://www.teachhub.com/teaching-strategies/2014/09/differentiated-instruction-strategies-tiered-assignments/

Bloom's taxonomy
https://cft.vanderbilt.edu/guides-sub-pages/blooms-taxonomy/
