After the US decision to bomb Hiroshima created a greater divide between the US and the soviet union. after the end of ww2 the US added to its arsenal to try and stop the USSR from spreading communism throughout Europe. When the USSR began to create its own weapons the US and USSR went into a nuclear arms race. This is important because the distrust between the two countries growing after the bombing of Hiroshima lead to the USSR feeling as though they are falling behind the US’s military. The development of atomic weaponry led to both countries continuing to compete to have the more advanced atomic weapons leading to an arms race lasting many years and the creation and testing of many unnecessary destructive weapons.

The conflict between the two nations began with the idea of communism Vs. capitalism, since the USSR wanted to spread communism throughout Europe it caused the US to put in policies to try and stop this. Although this reason wasn't caused by WW2 it was still important because the disagreement in economic systems was so strong that it was one of the main reasons for the cold war. Since the USSR wanted to spread communism in Europe and eventually the rest of the world it caused the US to up their military offense to be able to stop the USSR from completing that mission.

The US had a fear that communism would be because of the ideological system in other countries that were having economic troubles (such as Turkey and Greece) at the time and were most likely going to convert to communism to help their country's financial situation. This is important because it shows that the US had a legitimate reason to fear the spread of communism and it wasn't just the US targeting the USSR for their individual economic system.

The president of the united states advocated for countries to have control of their ideological system and not be forced into one because of the USSR. he also was willing to provide aid to any country experiencing pressure from the soviets, this is important because at least in the president's eyes he wanted to help other countries decide their fates. Although people throughout America would have had different opinions their leader thought that this was the best plan of action. This is also questionable because I feel as if the other countries decided to join communism then America would be against the said country and be against the fate they decided.

The Potsdam conference was to discuss the fate of Europe as the war was coming to an end it was similar to the Yalta conference since it created a deeper divide between the two countries. Both Stalin and Truman showed dislike and distrust toward each other. The conflict between the two countries was close to the conflict at the Yalta conference even with different presidents Stalin still felt as though he was the odd one out and that his ideas on how to control Europe after the defeat of Germany and Japan were outcasted. Even though the divide between the countries was relevant to all three leaders the majority of the tension was between Stalin and Truman, so the tension between leaders was there even before the cold war even started. Both the Yalta and Potsdam conferences can be compared to the treaty of Versailles created at the end of WW1 and although they are very different both made one country feel outcasted from their neighboring and/or allied countries.
