On our first meeting, we were all told about what the course is all about. Personally, I think that the university's effort to sustain the campus and help the students is praiseworthy. To think that a course would be created bringing this objective shows the management's concern regarding the matter.

We first met and took pictures in front of M-Kitchen (KICT), the kitchen where we will work for food preparation before we will hold the event to give food to needy students. Then we were explained briefly about the course in front of the KICT (upper middle picture). We were then told to think about what sustainability project would we want to do before we dismiss.

After the class time, my friends and I thought about what project to do for the course's assessments.

On 19/12/2022, we were asked to go to Senate Hall, which is at level 5 of the Rectory Building. There, we joined a seminar called "FINANCIAL LITERACY SEMINAR: TOWARDS THE FINANCIAL WELL-BEING OF THE YOUTH".

In the hall, we were seated in a parliamentary seating, which is the first experience for me. We were also provided with breakfast beforehand. The event discussed financial well-being, financial saving and financial withdrawal in the pandemic.

Financial well-being is a state in which an individual has the financial resources and financial literacy necessary to make informed and effective financial decisions, meet current and future financial needs, and achieve financial goals. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on financial well-being for many people, as the economic downturn and widespread job losses have left many people struggling to make ends meet. The event discussed all the matters. From the seminar, I know how we are supposed to protect our financial well-being.

From the topic, I learned the relationship between the two. Maqasid al-Shariah urges few things, which are the preservation of religion, life, wealth, intellect and lineage. The maqasid al-Shariah offers a framework for promoting sustainable development that aligns with its objectives, taking into account the social, economic, and environmental aspects of sustainability.

I personally loves this topic since I have presented on Maqasid Shariah in other class before, and seeing its relation to SDG is interesting.

In this week, we were supposed to have a visit to IIUM Gallery. However, due to being infected by Covid, I was not able to join my friends. That being said, they really help me, by showing pictures and explaining what IIUM Gallery contains.

From their explanation, I got to learn that IIUM has played a major and important role in completing aspects of SDG that address global environmental issues. For example, IIUM has developed surroundings of Kulliyyah and Mahallah that is walkable in distance, which enable the students to not have to use vehicles. That way, the use of vehicles and the amount of carbon released can be reduced. Other than that, IIUM is also surrounded by greens and has a very organized garbage disposal system. The students can also freely stroll around the campus thanks to the management's construction of walkways and shade structures, especially when it suddenly starts to rain and people don't have an umbrella with them.

In order to ensure that everyone in the area can go about their daily activities without incident and to prevent any illnesses, especially for students, it is clear from the Gallery that IIUM places a high priority on environmental stability and cleanliness. The stability of the ecosystem can be useful in coping with natural disasters like landslides and flash floods.

It is frequently used in relation to sustainable development, which is the concept of addressing present needs without jeopardising the capacity of future generations to meet their own needs.

I also learned about how Malaysia implements the idea of Sejahtera or SD.

This week, we have another virtual meeting, discussing the "Challenges to Sustainable Development".

I learned from this class that SDG is not easy to be implemented in a wide scale. There are challenges to sustainable development. One of them is poverty. Poverty is a major challenge to sustainable development, as it affects the ability of individuals and communities to meet their basic needs and participate in economic and social activities. There are also another challenges like inequality and limited access to education. Inequality can result in social and economic disparities and make it difficult to access services like healthcare, education, and other necessities. Meanwhile, education is critical for sustainable development, as it helps to promote economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve health and well-being. However, many people lack access to high-quality education, particularly in developing nations.

Through the lesson, I learned that global SDG cannot be looked as an easy effort as there are many challenges to it. Even on social level, there are challenges like social interest and focus on other pressing matters.

Other than that, academic institutions can work to educate the public about the importance of sustainability and the steps that individuals and communities can take to support it. Institutions can also establish partnerships and collaborations between different sectors to address sustainability challenges.

Institutions can support the transition to more sustainable ways of living by taking on these and other roles that will help to foster the conditions for sustainable development.

A sustainable campus is a college or university campus that promotes sustainability and minimises its negative environmental effects. A sustainable campus would be a campus or university that implements the idea of SDG. For example, practicing energy efficiency by using a more energy-sufficient systems. Other than that, a sustainable campus should be able to reduce its community of the use of vehicles. For the 10th week, we were lectured on "Measurement, Indices, and Indicators for Sustainable Development and SDG"

This week's lecture in particular was quite hard for me since there are many new terms. There are various measurements needed to be taken into account when SDG wants to be implemented. In the class, Prof Suhaimi divided it into human factors, which included life expectancy, gender, literacy rate, and also other human factors. Another category is economic factors. Among them are the rate of economic growth and the rate of inflation.

These measures can help policymakers and other stakeholders to understand the challenges and progress being made toward achieving sustainable development goals and to identify areas where additional action is needed.
