Title: Introduction into Film and TV - TRUTH

Learning outcomes:

LO. To discover the meaning of truth within screen acting.

Aim. To explore Truth in acting through repetition.

Aim. To explore Truth through Sense Memory and Emotional Memory.

Lesson Description:

Students will set up padlets, have brief given and will review films from the summer using the tracker provided prior to the summer.

In this session students will explore Truth and how being truthful in your acting can improve artistry. Learners will explore E/S memory and how it has its part to play in being truthful.

Title: Building core knowledge and skills

Learning outcomes: To create a base for knowledge of the screen acting medium.

Aim. To recognize eyelines and the link to human emotion.

Lesson Description: Students will begin to build up screen acting skills and will use continued reflection to enhance there practice.

Tasks:

1. Putchiks wheel of emotion: Students will recognize emotions and feelings and apply those feelings into future characters.

2. Tell me about you - students will work in a close up and speak about themselves in the most truthful way. Students will use this task to highlight eyelines, the emotion the actor goes through and to get a taste of being on camera.

HW: Find a short monologue from a film or TV show and learn it for next session/ week

Learning outcomes: Lo. To perform a text of your choosing to the camera while being aware of space and distance.

Aim. To apply skills in a filmed scenario

Lesson Description: Learners will present there monologue to the class and explain choice and reason as to why they picked it; learners will then go through an exercise where they will match the shot to the picture on the screen. This will be laid out in a grid format on the floor. With an understanding of shot types, learners will then perform there monologues to the camera in either a close up or mid shot.

If learners are progressing well, move onto hitting the Mark (should there be enough time).

Lesson Description:

Learners will create a short monologue, which will then be performed in front of the camera.

In this session, learners will learn how to operate and use a camera and will film one another.

Learners will also watch one another and analyse not only the acting of the groups but also did the actor fit into the shot.

Learning outcomes: Students will aim to apply screen acting techniques in a paired scene.

Lesson Description:

• Students will be provided with a short scene in which two characters move from one area of the set to another; learners will then aim to hit their mark effectively.

Lesson Description: Students will be provided with a short scene from the film 'Super Bad'. Learners will look to apply notes and feedback from previous sessions and will aim to develop their own practice.

Lesson Description: In the week, learners will write, direct, film and act in a film made by themselves. Learners will work in groups to create a short film which includes:

• 3x scenes (start, middle, end)

• Shot and framed in the style of Wes Anderson.

• Must include 2x shots in each scene while applying skills and knowledge.

With the remaining time, learners can watch Horrible Histories.

Exercise: learners will be paired randomly with actors from other eras and will partake in improvisational games to develop their characters.
