They are devastated that anyone in their school would feel unwelcome or uncomfortable because of their skin color. They are pledging to use only welcoming words to people and to alert teachers if they see something that isnt that way... if you see something, say something so that everyone can learn how their words affect others. They have taken on the mantra, "hate has no home here" and we will continue to reinforce to them that they are valuable. They recognize that children who make others feel unwelcome are usually feeling pretty bad about themselves. It was powerful to share their thoughts on how they can ensure they are creating a safe environment for their peers, how to be an advocate for those that might not be treated as they must be, and how it might feel if you they were the subject of the hurtful behavior. I think this is the good first step to making the entire school community (parents and students) accountable to ensuring hurtful and hateful behavior is not going to be tolerated at Lincolnwood. Everyone deserves to be a child, no matter what the color of your skin.  This is really important.
What can we do?  Be kind to each other by saying nice words. Have appropriate tone when you’re talking. Stand up for your friends.  
What is peace? Peace means enjoying what’s around you and having a nice time with your friends and your community.  Relaxing and thinking about what you’re thankful for.  
How can we take care of each other? Keep friends away from people who might do hurtful things. 
If you see someone being bullied, ask the person doing the bullying, “Why are you doing that?  Please stop.” Play games that everyone can play.
