To improve my level of English in the technology field, I plan to adopt several key strategies. First, I will focus on reading technical documentation and specialized articles in English to familiarize myself with the terminology and keep abreast of the latest trends. I will also take advantage of multimedia resources such as videos, podcasts and webinars to improve my listening comprehension and familiarize myself with different accents and speaking styles. Participating in online forums and communities will allow me to practice the language in real-life contexts and receive valuable feedback. In addition, playing online games with foreign-speaking communities will help me build my confidence in communicating in English. Another useful practice will be labeling technology items and objects in my office with their English names, which will reinforce my technical and everyday vocabulary. Finally, I will take courses and obtain certifications in English to consolidate my technical and linguistic skills, and I will set clear goals to evaluate my progress on a regular basis. With these internships, I hope to strengthen both my English proficiency and my ability to perform in a globalized technological environment.

Read research articles in journals such as IEEE Security & Privacy, participate in online forums such as Reddit's r/cybersecurity and follow experts on Twitter and youtube videos.

Improving Technical English in the Workplace

Every time I come across a word I don't know, I'll translate it and learn it to expand my English vocabulary. This will help me read and write more easily, and I'll also be able to practice pronunciation by saying the words out loud. Since most of the resources and tools we use are in English, the more I practice and learn words, the easier it will be for me to understand the concepts.

A good example is the BIOS in computer equipment, which is usually in English. Although some models allow you to change the language, most of the time it's in English. The BIOS is the initial part of the equipment, and configuring it correctly guarantees better performance and fluidity in the final equipment.

Another example is the configuration through CLI (Command-Line Interface), where we enter very specific English words like "login" or "password", "port", "security", "spanish", "tree", "protocol", etc. These words are regularly used in the basic configuration of the devices we manage in the GRD, and knowing what they mean in Spanish is a great help. I don't necessarily have to memorize the command, but just knowing what I want to do or achieve on the device, I can figure out how to start the command and save time or solve a problem in a few minutes.

Moreover, the products offered by the largest companies in our training program are in English. At this point, using English can improve significantly, as I'll have to read, write, ask, and document to be able to use the provider's product correctly.

As a systems technician, having a strong command of technical language in English is crucial for effective communication, problem-solving, and professional growth. Mastering this language can be challenging, but by employing specific strategies, it is possible to significantly improve. This essay explores practical ways to enhance the use of technical language, with examples and actionable steps.

Firstly, consistent exposure to English technical materials is essential. Reading industry-specific books, manuals, and articles can greatly expand one’s vocabulary and understanding of complex concepts. For example, subscribing to publications like "Wired" or "TechCrunch" provides regular insights into the latest technological advancements and industry terminology. By engaging with these resources daily, one can familiarize themselves with common phrases and technical jargon used in the field.

Another effective strategy is practicing writing and speaking in technical English. Regularly writing technical reports, emails, or documentation in English forces one to apply new vocabulary in context. For instance, documenting a network setup or writing a troubleshooting guide in English not only reinforces language skills but also ensures clarity and precision in communication. Additionally, discussing technical issues with colleagues or participating in online forums, such as Stack Overflow, helps in refining the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and accurately.

Engaging in online courses and workshops specifically designed to improve technical English is another valuable approach. Websites like Coursera or LinkedIn Learning offer specialized courses on technical writing and communication in English. These courses often include exercises that focus on improving grammar, sentence structure, and the use of appropriate terminology. For example, a course on "Technical Writing for IT Professionals" might cover how to write clear and concise instructions, which is a key skill for any systems technician.

Furthermore, learning from feedback is crucial. Seeking feedback from peers or supervisors on written reports or presentations can highlight areas for improvement. For instance, if a colleague points out that certain technical terms are not used correctly, it provides an opportunity to refine one’s understanding and usage of those terms. Additionally, using tools like Grammarly can help catch grammatical errors and suggest improvements, ensuring that the language used is both technically accurate and grammatically correct.

Finally, building a glossary of frequently used technical terms can be immensely helpful. As a systems technician, creating a personal glossary of terms related to networking, cybersecurity, or software development, along with their definitions and usage examples, can serve as a quick reference. This habit not only aids in memorizing new vocabulary but also ensures that the correct terms are used in the right context, reducing the likelihood of misunderstandings.

In conclusion, improving technical language proficiency in English requires a multi-faceted approach that includes regular reading, writing, and speaking practice, targeted education, feedback, and the use of reference tools. By consistently applying these strategies, a systems technician can enhance their ability to communicate effectively in English, which is essential for career advancement and successful collaboration in the tech industry
