         <title>Strategies to Combat Burnout</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Teachers and counselors are faced with many tasks during the school year. We are prone to burnout when dealing with stacks of paperwork, conflicts between students and the end of the grading period. Self-care is a way we can combat this burnout. Oddly enough, people that help other people rarely take care of themselves. I am starting a few techniques now, before I become a counselor, to make self-care a habit. The most important solution is to create an encouraging support system. I have a great network of debate coach friends throughout the state of Texas, I have amazing parents that are always supportive, and a husband that reminds me of how great I am. When I leave debate, I need to make sure I continue to reach out to new colleagues and create a support system like the one I have at my current job. Another technique is to start a self-care journal to practice gratitude. I have started journaling every day where I take about thirty seconds to write a sentence about something positive that happened or something I am grateful for on that specific day. I type this sentence on my phone, so I will have it with me at all times. I will continue these strategies as I pursue my counseling degree until it becomes second nature. </div>]]></description>
