this is mainly a comment than a question: I have noticed that parents are generally been very good about keeping their symptomatic student at home. It may be a good statement to send out to parents and staff reiterating the need if any one is feeling sick or has any symptoms, to stay home until one is feeling better.

I think we need to consider how the phasing in process will impact families with children in multiple grades at the elementary level. Families have had to work hard to establish routines that work and now this could really disrupt that. Are most districts going back in phases and is this being medically recommended? Would consideration be given to group the 2 lower grades first and then 2 weeks later the other 3 grades? This time frame seems more workable for families.

The May 3 timeframe to return to 5 days a week seems to align with when (under current information being provided by the state) teachers should be vaccinated. Is this a projected date that will ensure that vaccinations will have taken effect before going into effect? Without the safety of a vaccine and the concern of highly contagious variants, I am very concerned about my ability to feel comfortable and teach effectively in my classroom without a day of cleaning to help mitigate potential spread.

It may be disruptive to families, but we are the first profession really that is trying to get back to full capacity in the middle of this pandemic. Businesses, government offices, large scale professions are not spending full days with this many people in a building. That needs to be considered.

If contact tracing is only going back 24 hours from a positive test result, how can we be certain the numbers aren't higher? COVID is contagious before a positive test.
As a teacher and parent in our school community, this change cannot come soon enough. Whenever I feel a sense of doubt or fear creep into my head, I look at all our surrounding communities, schools throughout the state, and schools throughout the country that are full time and have minimal Covid transmission. We now know that Covid is not likely to be transmitted in schools when students are wearing proper PPE and I am so glad we are having this discussion to bring our students back. Our students need to be back. For us to think they are doing well on their own at home 3 days a week is a huge mistake. Students need the structure of being in school and being with a teacher.

Glad students can return

I am glad students can return to some normalcy in such a chaotic time. Students will benefit from the four days per week schedule. One thing that I feel is important for everyone to remember is that everyone has a different level of comfort when it comes to being in public. All teachers need support during this time and need to feel appreciated through action of additional supports in the buildings. Everyone should remember less judgement and more caring goes a long way.

During the Summer Instructional Committee, it was discussed how much academic growth happens during the K-4 years. Given that these are foundation years, I am so grateful that we are moving to full-time instruction. We all know that students learn best and are happiest when they are in the classroom. Hoping we can move the entire district back soon!

Is it possible to have Grades 3 and 4 come back sooner than April? Can all elementary students be phased in during March-- which will allow for one trimester of learning in person for all students? Please consider that Grade 4 students need to be prepared to transition to the middle school which is a huge transition for many of them.

While our schools do not seem to be transmitting COVID, we have had a number of rampant cases causing remote learning to be enacted. Schools in our local area do not. at this time, appear to have re-opening plans in their immediate future. We do not have small classes sizes like many fully opened schools nor do we have an abundance of plexi glass for protection. We are adults going to work but many businesses (ex. Electric Boat) still have their employees working from home. Have our numbers been okay because of hybrid? If that's the case, why would we change?

I feel as though students in higher grades, such as grade 3 and 4, need to prioritized over K students. Students in these grades are learning more complex concepts, and are expected to know so much going into the following grade, especially 4th graders going to middle school. With tougher concepts and overall larger workloads than lower grades, wouldn't it make sense to prioritize the students that need the most help first and then push in the younger groups? The overall mental health aspect of it all is important for every student however, from what I have noticed, the older students seem to need more time in the classroom to learn concepts they may not have understood on their own at home. Most concepts in grades 3 and 4 tie together, and without a strong foundation, there will be greater issues, in for instance math, in the foreseeable future.
