The activist traveled through the south doing many protests to stop segregation, but the people of the south did not like that one bit they would call police officers on them or act violently toward them. The first encounter of violence the freedom riders experience was when an African American seminary student and member of the SNCC, a white Freedom Rider, and World War 2 veteran Albert Bigelow and another Black rider were attacked as they attempted to enter a whites-only waiting area, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The four young girls that passed away during the explosion were named  Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley, and Carole Robertson, all age 14, and Denise McNair age 11, there was also a fifth girl, she was the younger sister of Addie Collins and lost her right eye. Unforenty justice was not served until May 16, 2000, when both men were arrested and were charged with four counts of first-degree murder, and four counts of universal malice.

Several days later, her husband and brother-in-law abducted Emmet, brutally beating and killing him to the point where his face was not recognizable before disposing of his body in a nearby river. The only reason why Emmett was recognized was because of his father's ring he wore as a necklace. Emmet was a 14-year-old boy. who lived in Chicago he was born on July 25, 1941, he was the only child of Louis and Mamie Till. Roy Bryant and J.W.
