Sloat goes to the capital of Mexican California,&nbsp; Monterey and takes control of California without firing a single shot on July 2. On July 7, 1846 Sloat raises the flag of the United States on Monterey.<br>3.) The American Flag is raised on San Francisco and Sonoma on July 9 and on Sutter Fort on July 11.<br>4.) Stockton sends groups to take control of other California cities.&nbsp; Most cities did not resist.&nbsp; On August 12, Archibald Gillespie and John C. Fremont capture Los Angeles.<br>5.) Gillespie makes strict rules for Californios causing Californios to get angry.&nbsp; Stockton sends soldiers to help Gillespie but Californio was able to win at Dominguez Rancho.</div>]]></description>

Battles were fought in Texas, and Mexico was invaded from the Atlantic Ocean by General Winfield Scott. Scott attacked Mexico City and Chapultepec. The war ended with the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848.<br>2. Manifest destiny is: The belief that the U.S. was destined to secure territory from "sea to sea," from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. The phrase was coined by New York journalist John L. O'Sullivan.<br>3.&nbsp; The Bear Flag Revolt is:A group of rebellions from Sonoma that declared that California was an independent republic in 1846. To represent this new nation, the rebels created a flag with a single star and a grizzly bear<br>4. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna is: political opportunist and general who served as president of Mexico eleven different times and commanded the Mexican army during the Texas Revolution in the 1830s and the war with the United States in the 1840s.<br>5. the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is:a treaty that the US forced Mexico to sign in 1848, giving Mexico's northern lands to the US (NM,CO,AZ,UT,CA,NV)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
