Living things with better traits will pass on those traits to their offspring, while undesirable traits are killed off. Living things with better traits have a more likely chance of survival against the environment and other creatures.

WHY: I chose this as my number five because it is important to understand that living things sometimes need to develop into a more acceptable color, size, or shape.

Charles Darwin is a scientist best known for his role in evolution and how it plays a role in everyday life. He worked on a ship for five years of his life. He collected specimens from part of the world, the most significant location was the Galapagos Islands. He argued all species had descended from only 1 or a few original forms of life.

Evolution is a matter of survival. Living things need to live long enough to reproduce and share valuable ways of surviving in their environment. Without evolution many animals/plants would die off because of other predators or their unique environment.

WHY: I chose this as my number three to show the significance of Evolution in living things and its need for those things to survive/ prosper in their environment.

Natural selection is a mechanism for change in a population that occurs when organisms with favorable variations for a particular environment survive, reproduce, and pass on genetic info to next generation. In the picture below the birds are selecting what beetle lives and dies. Since the green beetles are favorable the brown beetles can reproduce more and pass on genetic information while the green beetles do not have time to reproduce.

http://evolution.berkeley.edu/admin/media/3/52571_evo_resources_resource_image_380_original.gif

Evolution is a real process that we see everyday. We see evolution in many animals/plants and often don´t register what it actually is. We see it in plants such as the rat tail with its extended stem for animals to collect pollen and nectar from, to animals such as the Tawny Owl and its adaptation to climate change to better suit its cold environment with a white coat instead of a brown one.

WHY: I chose this as my number one because I did not realize that evolution was a real thing that we see every day and not look at. It is important for those creatures to develop so they have a better chance at survival opposed to if they did not evolve.
