Dr Ward stated "... through the children's hands and arms having been caught in the machinery... and in some

instances a finger or two might be lost.". Dr Ward has visited three cotton factories and described how he couldn't stay in the factory without gasping for air. In conclusion after having someone's perspective who was actually on the inside seeing the effect of kids, we can agree the factories were no place for kids.

The White mans burden is a book that was written in 1819. The poem was publish during the events of the African slave trade and was based on that current event. The man who wrote this book was from Britten and his job was a colonizer. The book describes the indigenous people as "wild" "half devil, half child" and "sullen". This goes to show how they were looked at but in reality this just one perspective from the British empire. This poem had an big effect on anyone who read it at the time, because it is one sided therefore it wouldn't allow people to get the full story.
