The hypothesis on the social-conflict perspective by Marx's is that society is in conflict between the social classes. He believe that the Bourgeoisie torment the Proletariat through various social establishments without their full understanding. Karl Marx's description of conflict theory focused on the conflict between two primary classes within capitalist society: the ruling capitalist class (or bourgeoisie), who own the means of production, and the working class (or proletariat), whose alienated labor the bourgeoisie manipulate to produce payoff.

Nickerson, C.
Symbolic Interactionist Perspective: Modernity and the Individual

The symbolic interactionist perspective focuses on individual interpretation of surrounding symbols. How do we adapt to the society around us, and how do we get shaped by symbolic cues?

Being in different countries worldwide, I can apply a symbolic interactionist perspective in fashion, for instance. When I used to live in California, yoga pants were something everyone wore, and I had different fantastic selections. "Most people in modern societies have the privacy and freedom to express their individuality" (Macionis, E-Book, Ch.17.4.3).
When I moved to Tokyo, it different dress code here. Even though it is not something, someone pushes you. However, you instantly adapt to fashion depending on where you at. Women dress here more conservatively, such as in long dresses. Women do wear yoga pants here; the only thing they put shorts on top of it. It is a small example of how society shapes our symbolic interactionist perspectives.

Overview of the Ted talk in connection with combined information from the chapter.
Globalization is getting more complex, and this change is getting more rapid. The future will be more unpredictable. Migration will be essential in our global future. Our setting will get affected by systemic risks: collapse in biodiversity, climate change, pandemics, and financial crises. Individuals in emerging countries feel they have been left out in one way or another in modernization globally. According to the chapter on resolution: “..modernization theorists claim that rich nations should help poor countries grow economically” (Macionis, E-book, Ch. 17.6). Global future will come in the resolution of problems by coming together to manage systemic problems. This will help society to understand the glory of globalization. Incredible things happen if individuals and societies come together to change our future.

Navigating our global future.
