It's disturbing to see how high the number of deaths by AIDS in New York City alone and the number is so much higher when you combine the total death toll during the time and it's sad that there was nothing done about it. Also for them to be sick and also homeless is awful. They were treated so poorly by so many people.

If I was walking on the street and saw this poster, it would have definitely got me thinking if the government actually cares for their people no matter what their sexual attraction is. Due to how much they ignored the crisis and people asking for something to be done, I would think they were purposely letting these people die. As if it was apart of their agenda.

Although ACT UP was obviously trying to strongly get their point across that women too can get AIDS and not just gay men, I think the image they used for this poster is just very inappropriate because these posters were posted in the public where children can walk by and see the vulgar image. Yes it's important that men used condoms so to be safe and using posters like this can definitely get peoples attention, but still it is just way too muc

It really angers me that women were being ignored during this AIDS crisis. The stereotype of who can get AIDS and also give was just so wrong and I think that stereotype did not help women in this case because if they believed that they are not a risk of getting AIDS and do not use protection, it just put them in serious danger of potentially getting it.

Why was art so fundamental to this movement? What was the purpose? Why do you think ACT UP activists used these images?

Art can be not only eye catching, but also can get people to really think about things that they never have really considered before. This movement was really trying express how important it was that the government provide the proper care for AIDS, sexual education, and also that women were not immune to the disease. They used vulgar images to really get their point across. They wanted to anger people and get them to want to join the moveme

Can You Wear Dior to the Demonstration?

I love high fashion. I watch the runaway shows all the time and faithfully follow what is happening during Fashion Week. I also love when designers use their fashion to take a stance on something or to join a movement. It's another form of art, just with clothing and they can really step out of the box. For example, a lot of people were upset with at Victoria Secret because they did not want to use Plus Size models and so other designers began to use plus sized models with lingerie on to show that it's okay and that they can be included too. Dior is a really well known designer and it's important that people like them with a lot of followings join in on these movements because they have a bigger audience.

I really like that Yang Qian used his art skills to showcase the demolished migrant neighborhoods. Many people get thrown out of their homes and they get treated like garbage, which he is portraying in his show. It really speaks out against their government and also gives a voice to all those who were displaced.
