Some man getting into her room. He is a  father of a baby. Pequena tells all about the baby. The man couldn't believe it because that is what he always wanted to have especially since the baby is a boy. He said he will take care of the child and Pequena but she doesn't seem to agree. After that, he abused her by kissing and harassing her without the need of others. After Pequena POV. We can see that Pulga is talking about Chico's mother. She got shot in front of the supermarket while Pulga was 13 and Chico was 11 years old. Pulga sees the body first but he tries to block Chico from seeing his own mother die. However, Pulga comes up with a plan to escape because it's not safe anymore.

Pequena gives birth safely at the age of seventeen years old with her mother beside her but also brings a lot of depression. Pulga is a guy who always gives hope and a positive mind to others.

Pulga first met Chico when Pulga is surrounded by a guy named Nestor Villa after kicking a speck of dirt into Nestor's white shoes. Pulga sees Chico is big and thought he might be helpful but Chico isn't brave. Yet, they slapped Nestor and got him down. Nestor needs revenge so he called his older brother Ray. Ray was arrested after the robbery but he is out of jail. Pulga and Chico arrived at a store. He met a guy named Don Felicio, the kind owner who doesn't want to raise the price of the product, and offered Pulga and Chico free drinks. How the author conveys the new character with kindness is reactionary to the story. While two best friends are searching for drinks, the sound of a car stopping in front of the store walks toward Don Felicio and slits his throat out of him. Pulga and Chico saw all the incidents but hid in the back. Leave no choice but to run away with trauma and not be to question.

While Pulga and Chico are walking to the school, they met up with Nestor in a car with a gun. At that moment Pulga knew that Rey and Nestor know what happened at Don Felicio's store and this will not go away if they didn't get in the car. Nestor takes Pulga and Chico to an abandoned building with smells of blood and body odor. Rey was there. Waiting for them. Rey wants them to be his pensioner for illegal stuff. To join the gang Pulga and Chico have to fight each other and they got no other choice but to die here. After Pulga punched Chico, he did everything to make Chico punch him back and Chico did. However, Nestor sent them back home and waited for them again the next day. In Pequena POV, she is trying to escape from Rey by going to the drugstore. She met someone she knows there named Leticia. Leticia has some kind of the same story as Pequena since she was pregnant at the same age as Pequena and her boyfriend left her with a child. Eventually, Pequena goes to the store to buy birth control pills but she saw a razor next to it. She bought both and made a plan to escape and fight to protect herself.

Pulga makes a promise to his mother that he will not fight again but he couldn't. Nestor picked them up to go train them how to use a gun. Nestor gave them a job selling drugs. Before Pulga meets up with another gang, Pulga thinks of someone he saw and assumes that they killed Chico's mother. Pulga doesn't want to have his life end up like this. After selling drugs not professionally since they were children. Pulga goes straight to buy a bus ticket with the money he stole from his mother but actually, the money is for Pulga from his aunt. The next POV is Pequena. Rey took her with a baby to a beach with no one seemed to be around. Pequena thought she's going to die and be killed by Rey or Rey may leave her and go with a child. What is going on is, Rey trying to marry Pequena and have a life with her. After Pequena returned home, Rey said he will be waiting for her the next day.

Pulga and Chico are waiting for Pequena at 3 am, they saw a shadow of a man and think that it could be Rey or Nestor. What happened is that man is Pequena. She wanted to hide from Rey and the abusive men during the escape so she cut all her hair off and change the way she dressed.

Pulga is trying to calm Chico but Chico doesn't listen to Pulga anymore. Chico yells for help and a man shows up with a gun. The man told them to leave if not he would shoot, doesn't care how Chico beg him to sleep on the patio. Finally, Chico goes and walks to the nearest cemetery with tombs. They are not the only group that sleeps in the cemetery. There are people like Pulga and friends trying to travel this dangerous adventure also. On the next day, Pulga has a plan and he finds a taxi that takes him to the shelter in Tapachula.

Pequena is shocked that they joined Rey's gang. In another way, Pulga also knew why Pequena is trying to run away from Rey and who the father of her baby was. The shelter has strict because they will run out of resources. The rule is no weapons, you can stay only 3 days, and need to wait in line to take a shower. Marlena needs to keep the shelter safe due to the dangers that may lead to the shelter and damage others. The shelter is full of people and they are not having enough room for Pulga and his friends. Marlena offered them to sleep in the big room on the floor and they all accepted.

It shows how intense the story will continue and the more traumatic scene will appear frequently. A woman asked for a direction but Pulga started to walk away which make Chico annoyed. Pulga wanted to help her but he can't due to the resources they have. However, Pulga thought of a guy named Felix. Felix got deported and send back home. Five months later Felix was found dead due to how dangerous the place is.

On the next day, they are fining another van and they arrived at Arriaga. A place where the La Bestia takes place.

The driver is giving directions to Pulga. They have to jump the fence to get into the train gate. Three characters don't want to get on the train too early due to the sunburn. While waiting for the train, Pequena hears a baby screaming near her but she sees no one, it's her mind. When the beast woke up, all people from all directions gestured to each other to the train. Pulga, Pequena, and Chico are running to get on the train. However, the train is too fast. Pulga jumps on the train first. Pequena also has a chance to jump on the train but she doesn't. Pequena is helping Chico since Chico tried twice and didn't make it. For the third time, Chico eventually made it there. However, the locomotives or parts of the train always move and people who are on the train need to keep moving another because the locomotive might bump and get people injured.
