A vocal advocate for the rights of women of all classes, she fought tirelessly and successfully to repeal the contagious diseases act. The contagious diseases act were a series of laws which gave the authorities the power to arrest and detain women the suspicion of having sexual transmitted of diseases. It was a small detail but made us rethink about our time-managing and how to be more organised next time.

I had great time working in this wonderful team, constituting my most inspiring moments in the past term. I also realised my own limitation such as poor computer skills and carelessness.

I have been very grateful for engaging in this small project, because it taught me so much about myself and teamwork.
 It also provides me a glance of what curating work might feel like, shaping my ideas about my future career choice.

A collection of letters from Josephine Butler to Emily Ford, starting with the first letter in 1882 and continuing to the end of Butler’s life. In the first letter, Butler describes meeting Ford for the first time at “friend’s” meeting. this might refer to the Society of Friends — a quaker meeting. Later in this first letter, Butler implores Ford to further commit herself to the religious course, urging her to ‘declare yourself the Lord’s handmaiden.
