Is the commandment reinforced by the law nowadays? The law protects people against lies. For example, today if I say that someone stole something from me I need to have proof of what I'm saying. The law will review the proof and it will punish the person that is lying. The 9th commandment talks about lying or giving a false statement about something and when you say something false in front of the law there is a punishment.

Sebastian: What were the consequences for violation of the law in the past and now? In the past if you lie or say something that was not true about someone the law can punish you with death or even cut your tongue. Nowadays if you lie and you are punished by law you will receive a sentence of money or to spend some time in jail. Lying it was a terrible thing to do in the past.
