I believe that strong relationships are at the core of student success. In order for students to achieve, they need to feel safe and cared for by those who teach them. As a future school counselor, I believe that advocacy is a crucial part of the role and an important part in building student relationships. I believe a school counseling program should follow ASCA competencies and ethical guidelines. As a school counselor, I will strive to meet these guidelines to deliver a successful program in my school that supports the students’ academic and social emotional wellbeing.

School counselors are champions for access to equal education, social justice, and advocacy in schools. As Rita Pierson says, very child deserves a champion, and school counselors are trained how to be just that for their students.

This is a lesson plan for a 4th grade class on how to stop bullying. I chose this topic because I would have greatly benefitted from a conversation such as this when I was in fourth grade. I think it is necessary to have conversations like this, so students know they are safe and what steps to take if they are experiencing a situation like this.
