The Shield and extended Ingestion team accomplished a lot in the last month and a half, which help the long term Schoolzilla mission of serving our schools and kids better.

- AF was the first customer we moved, but that was made possible by the relentless work of the Dennis, Debone team, but it was Brian, John, Oliver and Jake that pushed it through the finish line on Shield. Thanks to all! 

- The VPN wall originated as an idea within the Shield team, and became a reality that allows us to break the daisy chain and in the long term have several VPN connections on the same server all initiated at the same time, without having to worry about where and how do we add this customer to the daisy chain. 

- The ingestion POC pushed forward by Eric, Jim and Lloyd is the first step in the long standing idea of refactoring ingestion and helps us add clarity to that goal both in terms of technical feasibility and the approach we want to take. Validated learning !!

When there was only one we left it on all the time. Then there were multiple, but no way to manipulate the client automatically, so we had our accountants in India run a manual process for us.  Then we finally automated a CLI solution, but it meant chaining them together.  Then that daisy chain got longer, and longer, and longer.  VPN clients might still be more painful than we want them to be, but being able to control when they run, run them in parallel, isolate them to a container, etc., gives us so much more control over our operations.  Congrats!

It's always been an idea to address an important problem, but that problem hasn't ever been THE problem SZ needed to solve.  Now that we are trying to scale to bigger districts and improve reliability, this opportunity to try this idea finally came.  And the opportunity was seized, moving very quickly to test out some key concepts and approaches.  There is still obviously plenty of work to do from here, but I am even more confident now that this is the path we should take in the future.  Excited to get to work with you all to make this happen.
