This is because performance assessment lets students play an active role in the process. Students choose their topic or come up with their own creative ways to demonstrate their understanding of the topic. This allows students to take ownership of their learning and thus makes it more appealing to them.

However, it puts more emphasis on feedback and metacognition. The key point is that AaL enables students to learn about themselves as learners. In this process, they will develop metacognitive skills and learn to self regulate their own learning. 

    Through AoL, students will be able to decide what their next step is going to be in the learning process. This type of assessment will encourage students to become active participants and take responsibility for their own progress in learning.
