Both brothers played the game "chicken", where they both swim as far as they can and the one that gives up loses. The competition shows a genetically perfected being (Antonne) compete against a non genetically perfected being (Vincent). During one of the scenes, the invalid, Vincent wins in the competition. Antonne was expected to gain guaranteed success as he was valid but ended up losing to Vincent. The game symbolised a sense of equality - (fair competition). When Vincent won, it made everything possible. Antonne now sees that Jerome can be the one to successfully break through the system.

The geneticist persuades Vincent's parents in such a way that made them change their mind on leaving a few things 'to chance' for their child. As the parents are unsure on the expansion of modifying their child more so than originally intended, the geneticist is immediately against the idea and reveals that they would want their "child to have the best possible start," and that the "child does not need further burdens.". He goes on to say that "...keep in mind that this child is still you, simply the best of you." and that they "could conceive a thousand times and never get such a result." which conveys the message that the parents are not changing anything about their child. This convinced them to proceed with the genetic modification process.

Good answer with quotations

His child was genetically modified, which in this generation, it is commonly done and successful however, the result of the gene manipulation for his child was a failure and in this society, known as an in-valid. Lamar does not reveal Vincent's secret because his own son admires Vincent and believes that he will do something great one day.
