I am both extrinsically and intrinsically motivated. Intrinsically, I have a sense of arrogant pride at performing well and have a keen sense of attention to detail. It may have been instilled through family values or the military, maybe both. I have always excelled in my area of focus and have grown accustomed to being a source of knowledge for my peers. Carrying that weight at times has been an obstacle yet i have become accustomed. That motivation to continuously perform is my intrinsic motivation. Extrinsically, I work hard to provide for my family and have nice things. I grew up poor and never really had money or material things readily available. Once i joined the military and traveled, I gained an appreciation for travel and guns which both can be expensive. This is a brief overview of my intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

I am both extrinsically and intrinsically motivated as well. Some examples of the way I am extrinsically motivated would be the desire to advance in the workplace, and the desire to make more money. By working hard to achieve these goals, I hope to be rewarded with a promotion which will lead to a pay increase. For examples of intrinsic motivation, I will use my reputation of being known as a dependable or reliable employee. I do my best to attend work every day and always strive to be the first person at the office. I do this because I feel dedicated to my job and I achieve a great sense of satisfaction knowing people can depend on me. It gives me great pride to know that my supervisors can trust me and count on me when needed.

I am mostly extrinsically motivated. I would say that I am mostly extrinsically motivated because I am always seeking the results. For instance, when learning new subjects, I have interest in them but ultimately I know that I am going to have to apply it to real-life somehow and typically receive some type of result from it as well. One of the immediate extrinsic motivators for me would be receiving a good grade on an assignment. This would be considered a motivator, because I know that with each good grade, I am one step closer to completing the Master's level work needed to obtain my degree. All of these examples help to explain why I am more extrinsically motivated than I am intrinsically.

I'm going to go against the norm a bit here and say that I am primarily intrinsically motivated. Of course I do my work in order to get paid, but a lot of what I don't does not end up with an external reward. For instance, I am in the master's in online teaching and instruction design program. I am not in the program to increase my job benefits. Rather I am in the program to learn how to teach online. It will definitely help with my job, but it will not result in any benefits with regards to my job. I often read a book in order to learn something new. Overall, I think I am primarily intrinsically motivated.

I would have to that I'm both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated. I'm intrinsically motivated because I have deep seeded passion for learning and connecting the dots between life events, human behavior/tendency, and meeting potential. Many times I read books about human nature that help me relate to the people around me. I would say that I'm extrinsically motivated as well because I truly value family and the recognition I get from them when I experience accomplishments. The fact is, I initially entered the realm of education because of my mother and her passion in the area. She started off as an EC teacher assistant in a self-contained classroom. She has since gone on to teach and become a school administrator. She is currently the director of secondary education.

I would love to say I'm mostly intrinsically motivated, but honestly I feel like that's not true. When it comes to golf it's hard to focus on one shot at a time. You're constantly thinking about end results, if you'll win, and how far you'll continue. I always set goals that could be accomplished at the end of my year, like making it to Nationals. I would put post-it notes on my walls saying I would make it, and put up scorecards from each previous tournament to remind me of what I did well, and to encourage me to work hard at what wasn't good.

I believe that I can be both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated. For me, it really depends on the context or the topic. For work, I am intrinsically motivated. That is, I am motivated by the inner feeling of doing well and completing my tasks. In other areas of life, I can be completely extrinsically motivated. One example of extrinsic motivation for me, is in day to day chores. Although I so enjoy the finished product and great feeling of clean home, it can be difficult for me to be motivated to start when I finally get time off to take care of the mundane but necessary things. I would much rather spend my time going on fun adventures with my family but the need to buckle down and see to my home is ever-present. In order to combat such feelings and to reward ourselves for "adulting" my wife and I have developed a system for cleaning days. We will each complete a task, such as clean an entire room each, then we reward ourselves with one episode of a favorite show on Netflix. Then we repeat throughout the day until the tasks are done.
