When do you think art can become a form of social resistance

I believe art can become a form of social resistance when it gives a voice to people who are not usually heard, in this case black, indigenous or people from the LGBT+ community, Art can show feeling, stories and struggles that words alone can’t express. An example is James Baldwin, the author of I’m Not Your Negro. He used his words and ideas to fight against racism in the United States. Through his writing, he showed the pain of discrimination and inspired people to see the truth about inequality. Art is powerful because it connects with emotions. It can inspire people to act, to question, and to dream of change. That’s why I think art is not only beauty, it’s also a tool for resistance and transformation.

What message do you think this U2 song is trying to share about culture, identity, or human experience? Why do you think it matters?

I think the song share us about the pain, anger and injustice that violence causes, in this case the conflict in Northern Ireland, where peaceful protesters were shot by soldiers. It reflects on how political and cultural conflicts shape people’s identity and experiences.

It matters not just for calls for peace but also for the human cost of hatred and division. No culture or identity is immune to suffer, and music can be a powerful way to express those feelings and make people reflect on history.

I think some social or political problems become more visible when artists represent them because art makes me feel the problem instead of just knowing it exists. When I see a painting, hear a song, or watch a movie about an issue, it connects with my emotions, makes me curious and more interested in what's happening. But some problems stay invisible because they’re not easy to show through art, or people just don’t want to talk about them. Sometimes the artists who try to show those issues don’t have enough attention or support to make others see them.
