The process encourages students to create and end with a product that they actually release out into the world. The process promotes problem-solving, critical thinking, and imagination

The LAUNCH phases:

Phase 1- Look, Listen, and Learn
- Students will see or experience something and generate an idea or issue.
- Teacher may have students conduct interviews, assessments, or observations.
Phase 2- Ask a lot of questions
- Students will develop a set of questions they can use to help them understand and solve the issue/problem
- Teachers can facilitate this using the Q-focus technique (see below)
Phase 3- Understand the Problem and Process
- Students gather information to answer questions and generate new ideas for a solution.
- Teachers provide structure and support based on needs of the class.
Phase 4- Navigate Ideas
- Students collaborate to brainstorm their multiple ideas and form a plan of action.
- Teachers move students toward a clear idea or concept of what they will make. They may provide a plan of action template.
Phase 5- Create
- Students begin building their first model.
- Teachers help students locate materials and space for their projects.
Phase 6- Highlight what is working/failing and REVISE
- Students determine what is working and what isn't. They change their design based on these observations.
- Teachers help students self-assess their projects for quality and revise their work.
Phase 7- Launch Time!
- Students send or present their work to an audience and convince others that the design is useful and productive.
- Teachers help students reach out to these audiences and relay feedback.
