It was originally called the Famicom. It then came over to the United States in 1985. The makers of the NES used the chip from the ColecoVision to analysis it so they could make an even better chip. The original model for the Famicom  used 5.3-inch-wide cartridges and had two hardwired controllers that could be stored in slots on the side of the device even though they were permanently wired to the console.
