The logo of the Cleveland Indians became a very controversial topic due to the certain way it was perceived to the people and media. They believe that it was a stereotypical way to represent the Native American community. Instead of representing them for what they’ve done for the culture and history in a way they disregard the fact that they're doing more harm than good. Representing the wrong ideas and perspectives. So many believe they need to change it for the better of the future.

Aranya Laya- Pocahontas’s real name was Matoaka. She met Smith before she was held captive but they never got married or fell in love. She married John Rolfe and had a child named Thomas with him. She changed her name to Rebecca Rolfe in 1614. She was taken as a prisoner when she was 17 and was held hostage for more than a year. She was kidnapped and her husband was murdered. She was forced to give up her first born child. Many people know Pocahontas’s story as a happy one because of Disney but does not know the true story that was much darker. She died in 1617 when she was 21 at Gravesend, England.

The logo first appeared on the Indians’ uniforms in 1948 and recently the team decided to abandon its team name and logo in the offseason following the 2021 season. This was because the logo was more controversial than the actual name, the logo is an image of Chief Wahoo which fit the facial features of an Indigenous person. People protested against the team because the logo was stereotypical. This contributes to the erasure of their true history since the logo was there from the beginning and it was almost like the face of the Cleveland baseball team. - Axel Mexca

The Cleveland Indians was formed in 1894 in the minor league of baseball then making it to the MLB after in 1901 with a history of 10 central division titles and 6 American League pennants and two world Series in 1920 and 1948. Unfortunately they are the team with the biggest drought but are in reference with the Native Americans. Since the start refers to Chief Wahoo who was a chief of one of the Native American tribes. And people have always associated it with the stereotype of Native Americans and how they look which is disrespectful. This could be a way of erasure of their true history because they logo was a Chief leader showing a stereotype and it isn't helping the Natives and it hurting them more. Because of the logo they might see the natives in a different way maybe in a worst way then they would see them in a positive way.

Pochanta's who’s real name Amounte never fell in love with John smith, and might have not even saved him at all. She was 11 when John smith met her tribe and the chief who was her father. Historians think that John was never in danger and instead was adopted into the tribe for guns snd other goods in return, which is why they let him go. During what might have been a ritual Pocahanta's laid her head on top of John smith which he might have misinterpreted. Pocahanta's was also captured and sent to England so that the english can gain leverage against the Powhatan and the chief. She learned english, and changed her religion. She met John Rolfe and married. They had one child named Thomas. she also changed her name to "Rebbeca Rolfe." This contributes to the erasure of the Native American history as the Disney movie was all based on a myth or story made by the Englishmen and not the facts. - Pedro Pavon

Pocahontas’s name was Amonute and her age in the movie was very different than what it was in real life. Pocahontas’s life story was very different in the movie than what it was in real life. This was most likely changed because of the audience Disney was trying to please. I don’t think the audience Disney was trying to please would’ve liked the real and actual story of Pocahontas.
